Super Lawyers selects attorneys through a patented, multi-step process that combines independent research, peer nominations, and peer evaluations. Each year, lawyers from more than 70 practice areas are invited to nominate colleagues they’ve personally observed exhibit excellence in practice. These nominations are then reviewed and validated by Super Lawyers’ research team, which evaluates each candidate on 12 indicators of professional achievement and peer recognition. Factors include verdicts and settlements, special licenses and certifications, bar activity, pro bono work, and community service, among others.
After this research phase, top-scoring attorneys are divided according to firm size and practice area, then evaluated by a blue-ribbon panel of peers who focus on candidates within their own area of law. The final list represents no more than 5% of attorneys in each state, ensuring that the designation highlights only those lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional accomplishment. The result is a credible resource for individuals seeking trusted legal representation.
