Heysell Brenes has been a paralegal in asbestos litigation for nearly a decade. Over the course of those ten years, she has had the privilege of working alongside many dedicated professionals, both attorneys and non-attorneys. Heysell takes great pride in the work the firm does and the people who make it happen. They are individuals committed to achieving justice for those whose lives have been upended by the very work they did to support their families.
Although it may sound cliché, Heysell views clients and their families as an extension of her own. Heysell’s guiding philosophy is to approach each case as if it involved her own parent or grandparent. A strong believer in fairness and justice, she is driven by the desire to go above and beyond to secure meaningful results for clients.
Being part of this firm and its team has fostered Heysell’s growth both professionally and personally. She especially values connecting with clients—listening to their stories, offering encouragement, and helping lift their spirits during difficult times. Even providing emotional support is a great achievement if it helps a client face the day with renewed strength.
Heysell began her legal career as a legal assistant at a personal injury firm in Jersey City. A naturally curious and motivated individual, she quickly advanced to the roles of lead and litigation paralegal. Seeking to broaden her experience, she later joined a New York firm, where she served as a trial paralegal and gained firsthand experience in multiple trials—assisting from jury selection through verdict. The fast-paced environment of trial work provided an adrenaline rush that further deepened her passion for litigation.
A self-described bookworm, Heysell finds great satisfaction in conducting research and uncovering key evidence to strengthen a case. She takes pride in equipping attorneys with the information needed to advocate and negotiate effectively on behalf of clients.
While no amount of compensation can truly make up for the loss of a loved one or the suffering caused by asbestos-related diseases, Heysell believes that securing justice offers clients and their families a small but meaningful measure of peace. She looks forward to continuing to learn, grow, and use Her experience to help future clients and families find the justice they deserve.
